A letter to my daughter

March 14, 2019

Dear little one,

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with you now and you'll be in our arms shortly. Before you arrive, I've been meaning to put some words down to (hopefully) encompass what this all feels like, plus some wishes I have for you.

Your Dad and I are so excited to meet you. And even though I'm a little saddened that our journey together in the same body, is coming to an end, I can't wait to share you with the world.

Something about having a daughter in this day and age is incredibly beautiful. We get to raise you in a pivotal time in history when norms are being questioned, consciousness is coming to the forefront and women have more power than ever. I hope we don't fuck this up because I have no doubt there is a reason you chose to come to us at this time.

You've been a joy to spend these last 35 weeks with and as you continue to develop, I only get more and more curious about who you are. You've been gentle with me, and calm. I can feel your gentleness and calm demeanour and somehow know this is how you will carry yourself when you are here.

Some things I want you to know + some reminders for Mom and Dad

  • You are capable of anything and everything. Know this is true.

  • You, yourself have all the answers. Listen to yourself and trust your feelings.

  • The world is a better place with you in it, make sure you respect it and leave it as if you believe that.

  • Treat people with kindness, always. This is non negotiable.

  • Communication and constructive conversation is crucial. I hope to always be communicative and real with you.

  • There is so much beauty in our world, don't doubt that.

  • Everything always works out exactly the way it's supposed to.

  • Trust the timing of everything. Don't rush your life.

  • Take pleasure in the little things, and whatever else lights you up.

  • Eat well, exercise and drink lots of water.

  • Events in your life (good or bad) happen for you, never to you.

  • Stick up for people, especially those who can't do it for themselves.

  • Stay true to your beliefs.

  • Relax, you're perfect.

We're going to make mistakes and so are you, but know that we are learning right along with you and we promise to always do our best and trust you.

Can't wait to meet you little one.

Love,

M x D
