1. No coffee to go without a reusable mug.
The easiest rule I made early on was "if I don't have my reusable mug with me, I don't get coffee to go". I'm a huge coffee lover but this ended up being a really simple switch for me. Request your coffee "for here" when you're sitting in even if they don't offer (yes, Starbucks has mugs to stay!), and always have a travel mug on you if you think it might be a quick stop (my faves are Keep Cup and Contigo).
2. Say no to straws.
This is one of the easiest ways to make a difference today. Ask for no straw with your cocktail, smoothie, beverage of choice. It IS possible to do and there are tons of restaurants getting on the #NoStraw train which is amazing!
3. Start using those reusable shopping bags.
We've all done it, gone to the grocery store only to have forgotten our dedicated shopping bags neatly put together by the door to make sure you don't forget them. Or better yet, you get to the cashier and realize you left them in your car, right? Go back to the car to get them, put them in your purse, tie them to your wrist. It doesn't matter how you do it, but this one switch makes a BIG impact and only takes a little extra forethought.
"There is no such thing as "away".
When we throw anything away, it must go somewhere"
